Statement on the Health of Mothers and Children ( MDG 4&5)

September 2010
On the occasion of the G8 Heads of State meeting held in Canada on 25 – 26 June 2010, the G8 science academies presented the “Joint G8 science academies’ statement on Health of Women and Children “, which calls for more active engagement of governments in efforts to achieve MDG Goals 4 and 5 to reduce maternal and child mortality .
The IAMP believes that the statement of the G8 academies of science deserves the widest possible dissemination and support and for that reason, it has been submitted it to the 69 member academies for their consideration and possible endorsement .
A majority of our member academies have endorsed the aims and objectives laid out in the statement, and, in so doing, wish to add their support to all efforts to rally governments to heed this call for intensified action to achieve global goals to reduce maternal, infant and child mortality
IAMP  announced its support for the Joint G8 Science Academies’ Statement on the Health of Women and Children during a news conference at the Summit on the Millennium Development Goals hosted by UNICEF in New York on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.
